Friday Forum

I know it’s Sunday but…

1. Do you normally invest a lot in your appearance? Why or why not? Would you say that you are pretty particular about your appearance, don’t care at all what you look like, or are somewhere in-between? Do you spend a lot of time each day on how you look ?
In general, I don’t really spend all that much time on my looks. If I’m just messing around the house, then I really don’t care at all – my hair gets tied back in a most unflattering, but practical way, and I just wear old jogging bottoms and baggy T-shirts.
If I’m going to Uni or work, I make a bit more of an effort. I might blow dry my hair so it looks a bit more presentable, and I’ll try to wear foundation because I have horrible skin. The only time I’d make a proper effort would be if I was going out for the evening.
Each day, I probably spend about an hour on my looks – including bath, hair drying time and time spent to do face and put on foundation.

2. If you could give someone else a day spa makeover, who would you choose and why? Do you ever watch makeover shows on TV ?
I’d chose my friend Sarah, because she LOVES all those beauty treatments and stuff, so she’d really appreciate it.
I’ve never watched a makeover show on TV. In fact, I’m only barely aware of their existence, and the idea of something like ‘Extreme Makeover’ truly horrifies me.

3. Do you feel like you look your age, or do you feel older or younger? Why? What’s your current age, and what’s the age that you feel like?
I’ve always thought that I look pretty much my correct age, but over the last couple of weeks three separate people have told me that they thought I was much younger than I am. So who knows?
I’m actually 29 (although I’m really not happy about that – it’s far too close to 30 so I prefer to say that I’m 28). I feel about 17 because I feel terribly stupid, selfish and immature a lot of the time – and that’s how I was when I was 17. Looks wise, I sometimes think I look about 40, but generally I think I look late 20′s to early 30′s.

4. What about your appearance would you most like to change? Why? What do you feel are your best features? Would you ever undergo plastic surgery?
I have wrinkles on my forehead in between my eyes that I hate. And I also really, really hate my tummy. I mean, I’m fat all over, but it’s worst there. I’d probably have to say that my breasts are my best feature, especially when they’re encased in a great bra – but recently because of my horrid tummy, I don’t think they look as good as they used to.
I always used to think that I would never have plastic surgery, but more recently, as I’m starting to get wrinkles and so on, I’m not so sure. Botox seems like a great idea, and I can certainly see me having that if I had the extra cash. I would also probably consider a tummy tuck / liposuction / whatever was required if I ever shift this excess weight and end up with overhanging skin etc.

5) Which celebrities do you feel are the most beautiful, and why? Is it just their outside appearance that is so striking or also their inside ?
Oh, I’m never any good at this – for a start I can never remember anyone’s names! I think Sandra Bullock is very attractive – in a kind of easy, natural way. I don’t like it when people look as though they have to try really hard to look good (like Posh Spice).
I can’t really comment about what’s on the inside for these celebrities – because I don’t know them, and I’m pretty certain that most of the time the persona that they portray to the media isn’t necessarily the real them.

Spam again!

April 9th, 2005

I’m really pleased with how MT Blacklist is working, and since I installed it, I don’t think I’ve had a single spam comment published. However, I have had hundreds referred for moderation, which is getting a bit annoying. Especially if I don’t get to check my computer for a couple of days. So, I’ve amended the criteria for blocking comments slightly. Some words that before were only getting comments moderated will now block them altogether.

I’m pretty sure that the words I’ve chosen won’t affect any genuine posters (unless they work in the pharmaceuticals industry!). But if you are a genuine poster, and you do get blocked for any reason, just drop me a line, and I’ll change things back to how they were.

Good luck Charles and Camilla!

April 9th, 2005

I know it’s not very popular at the moment to like the Royals, and I’m certainly not a big Royal watcher, but I am pleased for Charles that he’s now marrying the love of his life, and I wish them every happiness together. I thought she looked lovely arriving at the Guild Hall – elegant, yet not wearing a silly dress for someone half her age. Good luck to them both, I hope they’ll be really happy together.

Shopping!

April 8th, 2005

The gold glitter toilet seat was a clear winner (sorry Newt!) so I’ve ordered that one. And while I was doing that somehow a new set of bathroom scales with a body fat percentage calculator hopped into my shopping basket. So now, not only can I worry and get depressed about all the weight I’m not losing, I can also panic about my body fat percentage!

Did a lot of shopping yesterday as well, partly as an exercise in procrastination so I didn’t have to write essays. I bought clothes for me from George and Matalan, I got Newt some jeans that are too long and have to got back, and a new bin and toilet brush for the bathroom. Exciting eh?

Newt’s gone away for the weekend to some gaming convention or other, so I really need to use this time to write essays – but I bet I don’t. I also have plans to do some cooking so that I don’t run out of interesting things to eat. Falafel and cottage pie today because I have sweet potatoes that need using up.

Toilet seats

April 4th, 2005

Our toilet seat has broken – not badly, but one of the little ‘stopper’ things on the bottom of the seat has cracked, and now there’s a spiky bit that digs into your bum whenever you sit on it. So I need a new toilet seat, and I thought you guys could help me choose one. To help you in your choice, my bathroom suite is a dark brown colours(I know, it’s icky), and the walls are cream and gold (not shiny gold, more a yellowy-orangey gold).

Oh, and I don’t know why there’s a huge gap between the text and the poll – sorry!

Which toilet seat should I buy?
White Seashore
Pebble
Gold Leaf
Organic Microdots
Other – under 50 quid please

WIP Progress

April 4th, 2005

Here’s my progress on Wildlife of the Hedgerow as of last night. The photo’s a bit rubbish, and it’s very creased – but it’s the best I can manage at the moment. Slow progress, mainly due to the takeover of my leisure time by Emperor. But as that’s now banned, you might see a little more progress next month. I’ve also amended the code for the sidebar so that should update semi-automatically when I have a new WIP pic – but MT also seems to be a little unhappy about a plugin, so it may not work at all.
