I know it’s been a while…
but I’ve been busy moving house. I wanted to wait until I could share some pictures with you, but first of all we couldn’t find the digital camera in the mountain of boxes, and then I couldn’t find anything to take pictures of that wasn’t covered in boxes! The only photo I have is of the garden, and it’s taken with Newt’s camera phone, so it’s not great, but it’s the best we’ve got at the moment. ![]()
We’ve completed on the old house, which is a HUGE relief, big weight off my mind. Although I’m still in the midst of cancelling various utility bills and setting up new direct debits and all that sort of thing, but I’m sure we’ll get there. We moved on the 6th February, but it took us over a month to get telephone and internet and TV sorted out. ntl is a dirty word in our house now, but the silver lining to that small cloud is that I now have Sky+ that I’m sadly addicted to.
The cats have settled in nicely. We kept them in for about 3 days, then the constant yowling, and the smell that three cats using a litter tray make got too much and they went out for supervised visits. After one days of that, BBC escaped and went AWOL for 16 hours. I thought he was lost, I cried a lot and shouted at Mr Newt who had lost him in the first place. Then, at tea time, the wanderer returned completely oblivious to the breakdown of marital harmony he’d caused. Since then we’ve had snow – and discovered that cats don’t like snow. We’ve had rain – and discovered that cats don’t like rain, and are also too stupid to realise that if it was raining 30 seconds ago, then yes, the chances are that it’s still raining now. We’ve discovered a dead rabbit on the lawn, and I have a horrible feeling that this is just the beginning of the carnage that BBC is likely to bring to the neighborhood.
We’ve discovered local pubs, and been for a walk in the local park, which was cold, and a lot hillier than I remember. (Or more likely, I’m a lot less fit than I remember). We’ve been to the local market, which has a great fruit and veg stall, and we’ve become very regular patrons of the local libraries which are fantastic, and to borrow a phrase from Mr Newt “wee all over Leeds”. We’ve been out for a couple of meals, trying new places. One Italian restaurant wasn’t that impressive – but it was Saturday night and very busy, but I don’t think we’ll bother with that one again. Our next trial will be the Blue Tiffin, which looks fab and I can’t wait to try it. All this is purely research you understand, so that when people come to stay, we’ll know the best places to go.
I’ve been working on the ward for a while now, and once I got used to it, I actually really enjoyed it. Just as stressful as Delivery Suite, and at times more so, but in a different way. I still have sleepless nights, because it’s just such a damn scary job, but I do enjoy it once I get there. I still don’t enjoy getting up at 5:30am though, and I don’t think I ever will.

Even with a blurry photo, I can tell your new backyard is gorgeous! Exactly like I might picture a backyard in the UK. I get up at 5:30 am for work 5 days a week. I’ve been doing it for 6+ years and I still don’t enjoy it. =(

I wake up at 5:30 most work days and 4:30 one day a week. While I’ve gotten used to the 5:30 (I’m a morning person too so that helps) 4:30 is truely an unatural wake up time. I always feel like I’m in a constant state of exhaustion.
Worst is the one day a week I get to sleep in, I’ll barely make it to 6!
