Long and (probably) boring – 100 things

June 28th, 2006

Shamelessly borrowed from Attack Monkey‘s blog, and the ultimate in procrastination exercises.

1. NAME ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT ?
I have a 6inch long scar on my right thigh, from an argument with a broken Budweiser bottle when I worked in a pub. Lesson learned – casualty at 11pm on a Friday night is not a great place to be.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
A mirror and some pictures, and some flowery wallpaper

3. WHAT DOES YOUR MOBILE PHONE LOOK LIKE?
It’s an orange and blue Nokia. No idea what type, it’s about 3 years old. It doesn’t take photos, it doesn’t play silly tunes.

4. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Mainly classical really, but I don’t listen to much music. Radio 2 or Radio 4 normally, depending on the time of day.

5. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT DESKTOP PICTURE?
Had to check – it’s a cheetah. I have the webshots thing that cycles my wallpaper every hour.

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
To get rid of this horrible stressed feeling I have right now – especially as I have nothing to feel stressed about at the moment.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
My Grandparents. I miss them every day.

8. WHAT TIME WERE YOU BORN?
01:10am according to my mum. About 9:30pm according to my dad, because he insists he went straight to the pub, so it must have been before closing time, which was 10:30pm then. My mum is probably a more reliable source though.

10.WHAT ENDED YOUR LAST RELATIONSHIP?
He was too boring. Washed his car three times a week.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
Sometimes. But not of the dark per se – more of the horrors the cats might bring in, or that strange feeling that someone is watching you.

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
Technically my friend and her new husband. I cried at their wedding.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOGNE / PERFUME?
Attraction by Lancome

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Not bothered really. Green eyes are nice though.

15. DO YOU LIKE PAINKILLERS?
Yes. I don’t like suffering in pain when I don’t have to.

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINKS?
Coffee. Can’t stand those energy drinks, they taste like cough medicine.

Mushrooms.

18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Vegetable kiev and root vegetable mash from M&S

Probably DH. Mind you, that’s probably a daily occurrence.

20. DO YOU SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE?
I can get by in French, but that’s about it.

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST GIFT SOMEONE EVER GAVE YOU?
My grandparents gave me a dog when I was really little. I still have him, though he has no eyes or mouth any more. He’s imaginatively called ‘Dog’.

22. DO U LIKE SOMEONE?
Well, Newt is OK, I guess.

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
No. Why?

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
Anthony and Alison

25. WHAT’S YOUR DREAM CAR?
This really little go-kart type car that they had on Top Gear last Christmas. Can’t remember the name, but I’m fairly sure it was British, and it was completely bonkers. Unbelievably fast, yet strangely also road worthy.

27. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MARRIAGE?
Given that I am married, obviously I think it’s a good thing. I have to admit though, that in general I don’t totally understand civil ceremonies. I think rather than a wedding you should have some kind of civil partnership (like for gay couples) and save the ‘marriage’ thing for church / synagogue / temple / mosque.

28. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
Probably.

29. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU?

83

31. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
Brunettes

32. WHAT IS THE ONE NUMBER YOU CALL MOST OFTEN?
My mum

33. WHAT ANNOYS YOU MOST?
Oh, so, so many things. Skateboarders, people who don’t pull their pants up, other people driving when I want to be on the road, football, poor service in shops and restaurants, having to get up at 5:30am, cold callers, poor grammar on signs…I could go on.

34. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF ENGLAND?
Yup. But I’m not particularly well travelled. I’ve never been outside Europe (unless Turkey counts).

35. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
I take things to heart too much. I stress out about little things, and can’t let them go.

36. WHAT WAS THE LAST GIFT YOU RECEIVED?
Newt bought me some duty free chocolate when he came back from Germany. Those pastille things that you seem to only be able to get in airports. I love them.

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
Nothing, really. Oh, maybe some Denby plates.

Yes. I’m not very good at keeping secrets to be honest.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
No.

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE YOUR ANGER?
I whinge on at Newt. I don’t get very angry, because I have quite a short temper, so I have lots of minor little outbursts.

The last about the bunnies

June 19th, 2006

OK, I know I’ve been wittering on and on about this, and I promise this is the last post. BBC is now collarless. Collars were lasting on average 1-2 weeks, and with the number of bells on each it was costing about £5 a go. Added to this the fact that it didn’t really seem to work as a bunny deterrent, and drove me mad when he scratched his neck, I’ve given up on the idea. The bunny carnage continues. I give up. I have no more ideas, and nor does the vet, various pet shop owners, anyone at work, or about 20 random people in the street whom I’ve asked.

So, no more about the rabbits. Not that I’ve much to report in other news. I’ve got some time off work coming up shortly which I’m really looking forward too. I intend to watch Wimbledon and drink Pimms and lemonade. I also have to catch up on my OU coursework, because true to form, I’m horribly behind. I will NOT be signing up for any more courses for at least 12 months, no, really I won’t. I’m taking a break from the knitting, and I’ve picked up English Garden Sampler again, and I’m really enjoying it. No great progress to show at the moment, but I will be taking monthly progess pics. I’m also off to a GTG this weekend, which will be great. So altogether, things are good.

OK, I spoke too soon

June 4th, 2006

Yesterday was the worst bunny carnage we’ve seen so far. Three ex-rabbits in as many hours. One lucky rabbit that got abandoned as BBC entered into a yowling competition with another cat, and made it’s escape. Finally, at 6:30am one live, squealing and very wriggly bunny that was released back to its home.

So it would seem that the bells are no longer effective. Or, they were never effective and the temporary lull in the mass slaughter was brought on by the rain. Not entirely sure what I’m going to do next. I did try ignoring him when he brought one in but that wasn’t great (I’ll spare you the gory details). One thing’s for sure though, he’s getting either locked in or out tonight, because I couldn’t sleep last night for worrying what he’d bring in and where he’d leave it!

Summer at last

June 3rd, 2006

Today is a gorgeous day, and for the moment, it doesn’t seem to be raining. Yay!!! So does this mean summer is here at last? No idea, so I’m going to try to make the most of today, and sit outside later. I don’t really have much to update, because I’ve been mainly working nights since last update – and whenever I do that I don’t really get anything else done.

Mr Boo still hasn’t brought any more rabbits in, so I remain cautiously optimistic. We did have one minor blip when I found a frog in my shoe – but I can’t be certain that was him and not one of the others. When I’d finished screaming “I touched a frog! I touched a frog!” Mr Newt safely released him next door because they have a pond. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not scared of frogs, it’s just not what you expect when you put your shoes on.

Holly and Tiswas have been for their annual boosters and checkups at the vet – and all was well. I’ve also got new glasses that I’m really quite excited about. I’ve got one pair of rimless glasses, and a second (free) pair of normal glasses with lenses that darken in sunlight – those Reactions lenses – and they’re really, really good. I’m very, very happy with them. I’ve also realised that my other glasses weren’t quite right, because I can see SO much better now.
