She’s growing!

May 22nd, 2007

Initially Evie lost a lot of weight – over the 10% she’s ‘allowed’ to lose.  Mainly because she was really mucousy, and basically didn’t feed for 2 days.  She’d started to catch up though, and last Monday she weighed 6lb 5oz.  She was weighed again yesterday, and weighed 6lb 15oz.  So she’s gained 10oz in a week!  I’m very, very happy about that, and just by looking at her you can tell that she’s grown.

More excitement

May 20th, 2007

I had to go back into hospital last Tuesday.  I got a wound infection which I needed intravenous antibiotics for, and a scan.  And while they were doing tests for this, they found out that I was really rather more anaemic than we’d realised, and so I had 4 units of blood while I was there.  So thank you to all blood donors out there – particularly the A+ ones. :)

Fortunately I got to take Evie with me, and she was totally not bothered by the whole situation.  I came home again on the Thursday evening, but I have to go back again to see my consultant next Thursday.

Newt is back at work on Monday, so I have to sort myself out and Evie – a bit apprehensive about it all, but I’m sure we’ll be fine.  And my mum will come over and help out.

Newt and I took Evie to her first day at church today as well.  We bought her a very posh dress for the occasion, and everyone cooed over her.  We do have photos – but as ever, not uploaded yet.

Welcome Evelyn Rose

Evelyn

Evelyn Rose made her first appearance in this world at 9:27pm on Wednesday the 2nd May.  It’s a REALLY long story, so I’ll save that for another page; but the short version is that I was induced for high blood pressure and dodgy blood results, but not a great deal happened, and I ended up with an emergency caesarean section.

I’m disappointed to have to have had a section (and it’s infuriating that I can’t drive), but at the end of the day, both me and Evie are fine, and that’s all that matters.  She’s absolutely beautiful – I’m not really sure how Newt and I managed to produce something so pretty and dainty!  We’re all at home at the moment, enjoying the sleepless nights and endless rounds of feeding and nappy changing.  Fortunately I’m a lot more mobile than I thought I would be, and not really in pain (which I was very worried about because I’m such a wimp!).  I don’t think it’s totally sunk in yet, the enormity of having a baby – probably will when Newt goes back to work, and life starts to get back to normal.  But so far, I’m loving every single minute of being a mummy.

Oh, and in other news, in a moment of superb timing, with a load of dirty nappies to wash – my washing machine has packed in.  Well, it’s gone into a huff and started ripping clothes to pieces, which is not within it’s job description.  So I’m on my first trip into the real live world since last wednesday to buy a new washing machine.  And I’m sadly very excited about it.
