Where does the time go?

June 19th, 2007 by rachel

I can’t believe that Eve will be 7 weeks old tomorrow! The time has just gone by so quickly. She weighed 9lb 1oz on Monday, so she’s gaining about half a pound a week. She also no longer looks quite as silly in her real nappies.

There are lots of new photos of her in my Gallery.

Good news today

June 13th, 2007 by rachel

I went back to the hospital for my 6 week GTT (glucose tolerance test) – and I passed!!!  OK, so those are only the inital results, but I’m pretty sure I’m OK.  So I’m not diabetic, which is a huge relief.  Although I’m still going to keep up with most bits of the diet to try to prevent it coming back in the future.

We’ve also started to use real nappies now that Evie’s getting a bit bigger.  She’s still a little bit on the small side, so she still looks a slightly odd shape when she’s wearing them, but I’m now confident that in a few weeks she’ll look absolutely fine.  I have to admit I like the shaped Tots Bots best, but at £7 each they were a bit expensive, so we’ve gone with the cheap and versatile terry squares.

However, we have had to admit that in reality, we aren’t going to use the terries 100% of the time – like maybe if we go out.  So I’ve also ordered some Moltex biodegradeable disposables, so that I can stop feeling guilty when I do have to use them.

Growing like a weed!

June 5th, 2007 by rachel

Evie’s weight gain continues.  Yesterday she weighed 8lb 1oz – so another 9oz gained in the last week.  Yay!!  I’ve even had to start packing away some clothes that she’s grown out of – granted they were ’small baby’ size, but you can really tell that she’s growing.  And all this was a great excuse to buy her some lovely new clothes!

She’s also doing really well at settling at night – she gurgles away to herself before drifting off to sleep, but then she’s generally going 4 hours between feeds, so i can’t complain at that.  She was managing the odd 5-6 hour stretch, but I think the hot weather is making her more thirsty.

In other news, I’m getting the car valeted (OK, so it’s not exciting to most people, but it’s pretty much the most exciting thing in my life at the moment!).  And we’re finally getting a gardener – Newt has admitted defeat in the garden, it’s just too much work to say that he doesn’t get home until after 6pm.  I’m hoping that the gardener will be able to do an hour or two a week, and then Newt will be able to just potter about doing the bits of gardening he enjoys, rather than getting bogged down by it all.

Settling down

June 3rd, 2007 by rachel

I think things are gradually beginning to settle down a little.  Evie is (generally!) very, very good.  She feeds brilliantly, she’s growing really well, and she’s not bad with sleeping either.  We’ve started to give her a bath at about 7pm, then a feed, then put her to bed – and she’s generally sleeping for a few hours, then getting up for an hour, then sleeping for another good few hours.  So we can’t really complain about that.  There are the odd few times when she doesn’t do that, but then she’s only 1 month old.

We’ve also been managing to get out and about a little bit more.  But it’s a bit like planning military manouevres at the moment, because I don’t think I can feed her in public yet without giving everyone in range a full view of my equipment!  So we’re trying to time going out to when she won’t need feeding – but that can be tricky.
