Rolling along

September 16th, 2007

Well, Evie can now roll over!  She’s been threatening to do it for a couple of weeks.  But last night after I put her to bed, instead of grumbing there was proper screaming.  So I go up to see what she wants, and she’s lying face down.  Well, I didn’t put her like that.  There’s no one else in the house so either fairies sneaked in the open window, rolled her over for a laugh and then left again, or she finally managed to roll over by herself.  Problem is, she doesn’t like being on her front, and she can’t manage to roll over from front to back.  So the next hour or so sees me running up and downstairs, rolling a sleepy yet quite giggly baby.

I do hope that she gets the hang of rolling from front to back quite quickly, otherwise this could get very tedious very quickly!

Swimming

September 14th, 2007

Evie went to her first official swimming lesson today!  Although we’ve been to sessions at the local pool before.  This was better though because there were only about 6 other mums and babies, and the water was really, really warm – so Evie didn’t get all cold and grumpy.

She had to wear a disposable swim nappy, then a really tight fitting nappy over the top – think cut down scuba suit.  When in the water, we did bobbing up and down, swishing from side to side, gliding, playing with toys, splashing water on faces, and even a little mini ‘swim’ where the instructor puts the babies under water and sort of wooshes them towards mum!  Evie looked a little bit surprised, but generally she was pretty smiley and seemed to like it.  I can’t wait for next week.

Afterwards, my mum and I went to Housing Units, for a coffee and to look at their Christmas display.  Yes, you heard me right.  Christmas.  I agree, it’s ridiculously early, and normally would make me really cross – however Evie absolutley loved it!  All the flashing lights, and sparkly things – I think we’ll be making quite a few trips therebefore Christmas comes.

Lovely day out

September 9th, 2007

We had a lovely family day out today. Normally we’re pretty rubbish and disorganised, and by the time we get our act together, it’s too late to do anything. Not today!

We’d decided we were going to go out somewhere, and settled on Lyme Park, famous as ‘Pemberley’ in the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice where Mr D’arcy is seen swimming in the lake. Yummy. So, anyway, all thoughts of Mr D’arcy put to one side – we set off, with Sally the SatNav showing us the way.

She got us there safely, and it was even a heritage open day, so entry was free.  However we’d already decided to join the National Trust, and when we signed up, we got three months free.  Bargain.

We wandered round the house – must remember to take the Baby Bjorn next time though, because Evie is just too big and wriggly to carry for extended periods.  Then we wandered round the gardens.  We had lunch and later on had afternoon tea.  All very civilised.

More Saturdays out are definitely on the agenda.

4 months

September 2nd, 2007

Evie is 4 months old today! I can’t believe where the time has gone. She’s growing up into such a little lady. She’s sticking everything into her mouth, and doing her best to roll over. She’s so smiley, and she can do real proper chuckles now when she thinks something is funny. Most of the time that would be Daddy pulling funny faces, but Mummy can be funny too when she does tummy raspberries.

I love seeing all the new developments, but at the same time it’s kind of sad to see her growing up so fast. I can’t get to grips with packing her clothes away when she outgrows them, it makes me so sad.Evie and Rachel looking at fish

We took her out to the Blue Planet Aquarium on Friday. She enjoyed it more than I thought she would. We took her out of the buggy and carried her so that she could see things better. She really liked one very odd looking fish (don’t know what it was!) and she loved it when she could see bubbles in the water or light reflecting in the water. They also had trees and plants and they’re always good to look at.Newt and the Nemos

Newt seemed to enjoy himself as well – he particularly liked the clown fish, or as all the children call them “Nemos”! Newt is back to work on Monday, but he’s got another week off in September, so we’ll be planning lots more days out then.

I’ve also just bought myself a SatNav system – a Garmin Nuvi 200. I’m really, really impressed. It managed to get me to and from the Blue Planet, and it even managed to detour me round a traffic jam when I asked it to. It’s going to make going out for day trips so much easier – I’m quite excited about it really!
