Plum Baby Porridge
At the Trafford Centre, they have a really big Boots store, and so I always go and have a look at the baby food section. Lots of it is your usual stuff, and is surprisingly full of sugar, but they do often have some nice stuff. I picked up some Plum Baby Cereals. I got the Four Grain Porridge with Plum and Banana, and the plain Four Grain Porridge. They’ve got no added sugar in them, and they contain Quinoa, which is apparently a ‘superfood’, because it’s a complete protein – pretty rare in cereals (although according to Wiki, Quinoa is a pseudocereal). I have bought some plain Quinoa from the supermarket, but it’s languishing on the shelf at the moment because I don’t really know what to do with it. So I thought the cereals might be worth a try.
So, this morning, I tried the Porridge with Plum and Banana. When will I learn to trust myself? I made it up according to the instructions on the packet. “Mix 4tblsp cereal with 100ml of baby’s usual milk and 100ml water”. This sounded like a lot, but I thought they should know. Wrong. It tasted of nothing and was the consistency of skimmed milk by the time I’d finished. So I had to chuck it, there was no way Veggie Baby could have eaten it. Plus, there was WAY too much there for her. So I’m pretty annoyed because that meant I had to chuck away 100ml of breast milk, and I hate expressing, so that’s a big waste. Next time, I’m going to use half the amount of cereal, start with 50ml EBM (expressed breast milk), and see if I need to add any more, and if I do, I’ll add extra EBM because that’s fairly watery anyway, yet far more nutritious.
